Bhagirath Singh
Dr. Bhagirath Singh is Professor and Director of the Centre for Human Immunology in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Western Ontario (UWO). From 2000-2009 he was the inaugural Scientific Director of the Institute of Infection and Immunity of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). He has served on peer review committees and scientific advisory boards in Canada and abroad. In 2010 he was appointed co-chair of Canada’s HIV Vaccine Initiative (CHVI).. His laboratory has done seminal work in type 1 diabetes and how microbial agents and auto-antigenic peptides regulate the immune system in autoimmunity. He has received many honours including the Banting and Best Memorial Diabetes Lectureship of IDF, Bernhard Cinader Immunology Lectureship, John D. Reynolds award of the Canadian Society for Immunology. He has been inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
