Stephen E Gitelman

Dr. Stephen Gitelman, MD is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Director of the Pediatric Diabetes Program at UCSF, and holds the Mary B. Olney / KAK endowed chair of pediatric diabetes and clinical research. He received his undergraduate training at Princeton University, medical school training at the University of North Carolina, and pediatrics residency training and endocrinology fellowship at UCSF, and has remained there ever since. Dr. Gitelman is a clinical investigator, and a member of TrialNet and the Immune Tolerance Network. Through these and related efforts, he and colleagues have conducted a series of clinical trials with various immuno-modulatory agents to preserve beta cells either before or after the onset of type 1 diabetes.
